Explosion at military explosive manufacturing site results in death of several
The blast occurred around 7:45 a.m. at Accurate Energetic Systems, a company that supplies defense, aerospace, and demolition industries, located in the city of McEwen. Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis described the event as a “devastating blast” that destroyed an entire building within the facility.
“We do have several people at this time that’s unaccounted for,” Davis told reporters during a news conference. “We can confirm that we do have some that are deceased, but we’re going to go back and, like I say, talk to these families, notify these families, and let these families know what’s going on.”
Authorities are still working to identify those who are missing or confirmed dead.
Davis cautioned that smaller secondary explosions could occur as emergency crews continue battling the fire, though he expressed confidence that no additional major blasts are expected.
Officials confirmed that the company is cooperating fully with investigators and emergency personnel as efforts to contain the situation continue.
