Blast Occurs at Tennessee Military Explosives Plant
The blast occurred around 7:45 a.m. at Accurate Energetic Systems, a company that operates in the defense, aerospace, and demolition sectors, situated in the town of McEwen.
According to Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis, the site endured a "devastating blast" that "encompassed one whole building that was on the facilities."
During a press conference, Davis stated, "We do have several people at this time that's unaccounted for."
He continued, "We can confirm that we do have some that are deceased, but we're going to go back and, like I say, talk to these families, notify these families, and let these families know what's going on."
Efforts to identify those believed to be missing or confirmed dead are still in progress.
Davis also cautioned that additional minor detonations could occur as emergency crews work to control the fire still burning at the facility.
However, he expressed confidence that there will be no more significant explosions.
Authorities reported that the company is fully cooperating as the emergency response continues.
